SUPPORTING THE COMMUNITY AND PROVIDING THE OPPORTUNITY FOR PEOPLE TO REACH THEIR POTENTIAL

Text Box: “Waranga Women” - an insider’s perspective

WOW - The Women of Waranga poised for action!

Leading Waranga Women project member Loretta McIntosh reports on this dynamic new group, one that is bound to have a significant impact on the life and times of Rushworth and surrounding districts.

The Leading Waranga Women pilot project began with a weekend of fun and frivolity (flamin' hard work, actually!) on 4th and 5th of August at the wonderful Barn at Bickley's.  We all knew that we wanted to do something special, but didn’t quite know what!

Facilitator Jill Briggs inspired all fourteen of us to 'go for broke' when realizing our dreams. Since then, we have been getting together every second Friday, and have really begun putting our plans into action. During the first session (entitled “Project Planning”), we formulated a plan to organize a festival that we hoped would showcase all that this remarkable district has to offer.

Come the second session (which was all about community development), we realized that a festival was way too involved for us to cope with, so we settled for a tent at the Easter Festival in Rushworth in March 2008.  In the third session on 14 September we learned about working with funding bodies, and ended up completing a 'real live' funding submission to help pay for art materials we want to purchase for decorating our tent.

Leading Waranga Women, or 'WOW' (Women of Waranga) as we have renamed it, is now having a hiatus (don't worry, I've seen a doctor about it and she's given me some cream to help clear it up) and will get together again on October 2. In the meantime, just watch this space.

Who’s new at the Community House?

In many respects, our front desk volunteers are the public face of Rushworth Community House. They welcome visitors, arrange class participation, help with Centrelink enquiries, answer the phones & play a host of other vital roles.

Recently, three new volunteers have joined our front desk team, and we’re delighted to be able to introduce them to you. From left to right they are Kristine Holm, Glenn Ryan and Nikeeta Kidun.

As with all of our volunteers, Kristine, Glenn and Nikeeta have undertaken a period of training to familiarize them with day-to-day RCH operations.

They are also acquiring a range of valuable administrative skills that will benefit them for years to come.

So next time you’re at the house, why not make yourselves known to them, and welcome them aboard.
