About Rushworth Community House

Rushworth Community House is a place where everyone can go to make friends and meet neighbours, share information and learn new skills either for work or pleasure and help make their community a better place to live.

We are situated at the top end of High Street just before the Shire Hall in an historic brick home which is owned by the Rushworth Community House Committee of Management.

Below is a 3D tour of Rushworth Community House's Multipurpose Room built with a Government Rural Transaction Grant. Apart from displaying works of art by local artists, the room is also used for lectures, meetings and social gatherings.

Our goals

Rushworth Community House and Rural Transaction Centre is a friendly, professional organisation providing services to meet the changing needs of our community.

We operate as a not-for-profit organisation, offering life-long learning and community support with a commitment to the principles of equity, access, participation and the rights of the individual.

Our vision

To be a viable business, supporting the community and providing the opportunity for people to reach their potential.

Our logo

Rushworth Community House official logo

Rushworth Community House provides adult education and community development through accredited and other courses. A framework for social support and a committment to people reaching their potential is the focus for this not-for-profit organisation.

The aim is to move away from a predictable image of a house and develop something more in line with Community House values and purposes.

The icon has been designed to represent growth and gold opportuniies whilst maintaining an element that is truly Rushworth... native flora and fauna.

History

The Community House commenced operation in 1988 in a church hall and purchased its own premises in 1991 through grants from the Department of Human Services and local organizations such as the Waranga News, the local community newspaper.

Expansion

The House's programs have now expanded into the Shire Shed in Horne Street where the Tool Shed program is held once a week. Computer classes are held in the new and improved computer room.

In 2001 a community garden was built on land just behind the House.

In 2003 Rushworth Community House received funding to establish a Rural Transaction Centre. In April the following year a new multipurpose room was officially opened at the rear of the house. This room is used to display the work of local artists, classes (such as the weekly Art Group), lectures, meetings of other local organisations, seminars and social gatherings.

Funding

Rushworth Community House is funded by Department of Planning and Community Development for coordination and Adult Community Further Education for education programs. The Shire of Campaspe supplements these funds annually.
