Statewide Walk of Hearts reaches Melbourne |
|
Last Thursday, Rushworth Community House representatives joined colleagues from around Victoria at “The Heart of the Community” celebration at the Treasury Gardens, Melbourne. Hearts were ‘planted’ from 380 Houses statewide. The assembly was convened to raise the profile of Community and Neighbourhood Houses throughout Victoria, and to garner support from across the political spectrum for a realistic statewide funding increase . Under current funding arrangements, the limited number of paid personnel hours imposes a heavy reliance on volunteers, forcing many Community Houses to close their doors for an unacceptably high number of hours during the week. Wherever this occurs, residents are denied access to the important functions and services which are provided by Community and Neighbourhood Houses. |

Candy Broad, Minister for Local Government (centre), and other Members of Parliament receive their symbolic hearts during “The Walk of Hearts” at Melbourne’s Treasury Gardens. |
