2008 promises to be an exciting year for The Whroo Film Society, with planned seasons of both Art House Movies and several films featuring the inimitable British actor, Sir Alec Guinness. An important innovation is the proposed inclusion of three foreign language movies (with English subtitles) from continental Europe and Asia. These “Art House” films are often fascinating, providing a thoroughly enjoyable alternative to English-language features. A trio of Ealing Studios masterpieces starring Guinness is tentatively scheduled for the winter months, providing an opportunity for members to experience the broad comedic talents of this wonderful actor in a warm, hospitable environment. The specific features to be screened during 2008 will be chosen by Film Society Members. We will need to expand membership of the Film Society if we are to flourish into 2009 and beyond. While we will be advertising around Rushworth and some adjacent towns, we know only too well that word of mouth is the best option, so we encourage you help spread the word Membership is still $15 for a 3 film season or $45 for the full year (10 screenings), plus a delicious meal with great company for $7.50 per head. Rushworth Prospecting Club arose out of a Metal Detector training scheme conducted during 2007 and auspiced by Rushworth Community House. The group has since grown considerably, attracting a welcome mix of locals & people from other parts of Victoria. |

Mixing field activities with social events has proved highly popular, promising further growth during 2008. The Club Christmas BBQ was well attended with President Jim Bartlett’s hotplate skills joining forces with Garrick Campbell’s wicked home-brew to victual the prospectors. The afternoon session attracted almost 20 fossickers - some from as far afield as Broadford, Shepparton and Seymour - a clear indication of the group’s expanding horizons. As always, our aim is not to take the whole prospecting experience too seriously - rather just to get out into the bush, use our detectors to find an occasional slug of gold, and above all to enjoy ourselves. So far, we’ve succeeded beyond all expectations. |
